Functionality
On the trail page, you can still swipe between photos in the image carousel. Once you tap on an image, you’ll open up the all-new Photo Tour. This tour shows you what to expect when you’re on the trail. Experience the tour as a video, or drag the elevation graph to toggle between photos. You can also tap on the tour while it’s playing to hide the elevation graph. Use the icon in the top right to switch back and forth between seeing the photos in a grid versus the tour.
Next, you can find more information on what features you’ll see on trail via the Sights tab. Here, you can find photos grouped by categories like Forest, Wildflowers, and Lakes. Tap into a category to see more photos of the feature, and like the Tour, you can toggle between grid and list view using the icon in the top right corner. Tap into a photo to see it in full size!
Additionally, we have the Seasons tab, where you’ll see images by month. Like the Sights tab, you can use the icon in the top right or tap into a photo to see it in full size.
Lastly, the Latest tab will show you what the most recent trailgoers have seen on the trail, starting from today and going back in time. It also has the top right icon and photo tapping ability.
To exit the gallery at any time, simply tap the X in the top left corner.
Additional Info
How do we populate the tour?
We use where a photo was taken along the trail route in order to help understand where it should fit in the tour. The photo tour is populated with the best photos along each point on the trail.
How do we populate the sights category?
We use machine learning tools to identify aspects of a photo that we think fit a category. Feel free to use the ‘report’ link at the bottom of a photo to let us know if a photo is incorrectly in a section.
Null states
All tabs and categories are present on a trail to trail basis. If you see less than four (or zero) tabs, that means that this trail doesn’t have the photos to populate those tabs.
