AllTrails has a wide variety of filters to help you find your perfect trail. Our newest filter, available to AllTrails+ subscribers, is the Distance Away filter, which allows you to find trails close to your current location.
The Distance Away filter requires access to your device's location. Using your IP address, the filter determines the distance between your present location and the nearest trails in our database. In order for this feature to function properly, you must provide AllTrails access to your location.
If you have not given AllTrails permission to access your location, you will be prompted to grant access before the filter can be applied.
The Distance Away filter is an AllTrails+ feature. Only AllTrails+ subscribers will have access to this feature.
Via desktop or laptop computer:
The Distance Away filter is located on the Explore page of the AllTrails website, just above the map alongside the other filters. Selecting the filter will open a dropdown menu where you can adjust the intensity of the filter.
After setting the slider to your desired distance, make sure to select the 'See # trails' button to apply the filter.
The map and list of trails in the column on the left will then repopulate to show you the closest trails to your current location.
In the example above, the Distance Away filter was set to 30 kilometres. The filter produced trails within a 30-kilometre radius of the user's location. The greyed-out areas are excluded from the search results in the map image above. Only the areas with the trail starting point pins were included in the results.
Via iPhone/Android apps:
To access the Distance Away filter in the AllTrails mobile app, first open the app and tap the Explore tab at the bottom:
From the Explore page, you can access the available search filters by tapping the filters button within the search bar at the top of the page:
From there, the Distance Away filter can be found in the middle of the page. After setting the filter to your preferred settings and adding any additional filters, make sure to hit the 'See # trails' button to apply the filter.
The screen should then refresh and automatically switch to a map view with the filtered results. You can return to the list view by pulling up on the drawer at the bottom of the map, where the number of available trails is listed.
A counter will also indicate the number of filters currently applied to your search, found in the top right-hand corner of the search bar:
