Whether you're exploring a place for the first time or trying out a new route at your local park, when in range of mobile data signal, Navigate can help you find your way on the trail so you don't get lost. AllTrails+ members also have the option to download maps ahead of time for offline use — learn more about downloading maps for AllTrails+ members.
You can load a trail, a custom map, or an activity into Navigate by following these steps:
Using Navigate to follow along a trail (AllTrails verified route):
- Open the AllTrails app
- While in range of a data signal, tap on the trail card you want to view
- On the trail details screen, tap the 'Navigate' button
- The trail map will load into Navigate, along with your current location
- Begin navigating by tapping the 'Start' button. The verified route for the trail you’ve loaded will remain green once you tap 'Start'; the route you've travelled will be marked with a blue line.
- You can swipe up on the bottom drawer to see all navigation options or edit your activity information (pause navigation, change activity type, etc.)
- To end the activity, swipe up on the bottom drawer, tap 'Pause' and then tap 'Finish'
- Completing 75% of a verified trail route will earn you a 'Verified Completed' badge — learn more about Verified Completed badges
Using Navigate to follow along one of your custom routes:
- Open the AllTrails app
- While in the range of data signal, go to your maps by tapping 'Saved' on the bottom navigation bar, and then selecting 'Lists' from the tabs at the top of the screen and choosing 'My maps'
- Tap to open your desired map and the route will immediately be loaded into Navigate
- Begin navigating by tapping the 'Start' button. The route you've loaded will remain green once you tap 'Start'; the route you've travelled will be marked with a blue line.
- You can swipe up on the bottom drawer to see all navigation options or edit your activity information (pause Navigate, change activity type, etc.)
- To end the activity, swipe up on the bottom drawer, tap 'Pause' and then tap 'Finish'
Using Navigate to follow along one of your previous activities:
- Open the AllTrails app
- While in the range of data signal, go to your activities by tapping 'Profile' on the bottom navigation bar, then selecting 'Activities' from the tabs (in line with 'Feed', 'Photos', etc.)
- Tap to open your desired activity
- Tap the map preview under 'Your route' and the route will immediately be loaded into Navigate
- Begin navigating by tapping the 'Start' button. The route you've loaded will remain green once you tap 'Start'; the route you've travelled will be marked with a blue line.
- You can swipe up on the bottom drawer to see all navigation options or edit your activity information (pause, change activity type, etc.)
- To end the activity, swipe up on the bottom drawer, tap 'Pause' and then tap 'Finish'
Using Navigate to follow along another AllTrails member’s activity:
- Open the AllTrails app
- Click on 'Profile' on the bottom navigation bar
- Tap 'Following' to open the list of members you follow and tap to select the profile you wish to view — learn more about searching for AllTrails members
- From a member’s profile, tap on their 'Activities' tab and select the activity you wish to follow
- Tap on the overflow menu (three dots) to the right of the activity's title
- Select 'Navigate using this route'
- Begin navigating by tapping the 'Start' button. The route you've loaded will remain green once you tap 'Start'; the route you've travelled will be marked with a blue line.
