AllTrails now offers a Wear OS app that can be used in conjunction with our Android app. The watch app allows you to control and view activity stats directly on the watch screen while using Navigator to follow your route. The Wear OS app is not a standalone app, therefore it requires your phone to be present for the watch app to function.
Installing the watch app:
Via Android phone:
- Open the Play Store app and search for AllTrails
- Tap 'Install' next to your Wear OS device listing
- The watch app will then be available on your watch
Via Wear OS watch:
- Press the power button to open and see all of your apps
- Tap to select the Play Store app
- Tap the search icon
- Use the voice or keypad option to search for AllTrails
- Tap 'Install'
Note: You'll need to have the AllTrails phone app downloaded on your Android device, as it is required for the watch app to function. Learn more about adding or removing apps from your watch.
Using the Wear OS watch app to track your activity:
Launching the watch app:
Once you've installed the watch app, there are three different ways to access and launch the AllTrails Wear OS app:
- Tap the power button or crown then select AllTrails from your list of apps
- Add AllTrails as a complication on your watch face
- Open the Watch app on your phone >> 'Watch faces' >> 'Edit' >> select a slot >> select 'AllTrails'
- Add AllTrails as a tile on your watch
- Open the Watch app on your phone >> 'Tiles' >> 'Add tile' >> select 'AllTrails'
You'll need to be logged into the AllTrails mobile app and have it open to be able to use the watch app. You'll see a prompt to do so on your watch interface if needed.
Selecting a trail:
Once you've launched the watch app, you can tap the green 'Start' button to begin recording your activity without a set route. If you'd like to load a route for guidance, scroll down from the 'Start' button to see up to five trails that are near your current location. If you do not see your desired trail listed among the five, you can open the AllTrails phone app to search for the route you want to follow. Selecting a route from your watch will immediately start your recording — you'll be able to see the map of your planned route on your phone app.
Navigator controls:
After you've started recording your activity, you'll be able to see your stats and easily pause and resume your recording. The default view will be your activity stats. Having a set route will allow you to track your progress on the trail, as indicated by the green completion ring (will not display when recording without a route). You'll also be able to see the estimated mileage remaining on your planned route,* and will receive a watch notification if you make a wrong turn.
To pause your activity, swipe to the right and then tap the red 'Pause' button. You'll then see the option to resume or finish your activity.
*Feature only available on the Wear OS watch app, but will be added to the mobile apps soon.
What's the minimum operating system version required to run the Wear OS AllTrails app?
Watches must run Wear OS 3.0 or above in order to use the app.
Can I use the watch app when I'm offline?
Your watch will work even if you are offline, though nearby trails will not be displayed on the watch if you do not have service. If you have a map downloaded on your phone app (AllTrails+ members only), you can open up AllTrails on your phone and load your downloaded map into Navigator. You'll then be able to track your progress on the watch app.
Can I use the watch app without my mobile phone?
The AllTrails Wear OS app is not a standalone app and requires your phone to be present. We're hoping to introduce standalone functionality down the road.
The watch UI is in English — how can I get a translated version of the Wear OS app?
The Wear OS watch app is currently only available in English. We're working to add translations for all of our supported languages.
Can I view a map on my Wear OS watch?
Viewing trail maps on the watch app isn't currently supported, though we hope to add this feature soon!
