How to customize a trail map

One of the great features of AllTrails available to both AllTrails+ and free members is that you can save any map from a trail details page or from another member's profile. This allows you to customize the map by editing the route, adding additional routes, adding waypoints, and more. While this feature is only available via our website, once you save and customize your map there, it will automatically sync to your mobile app for you to use.

You can save a map from a trail by following these steps on your desktop or laptop:

1. Log into your account
2. Click the trail card for the trail you want to save 
3. On the trail details page, select the image of the map to open the route
4. Select the pen in the bottom right corner to open the map creator
5. The route will be copied over as new custom map, where you can edit using our map creator tools 
6. When finished editing the map, click 'Save custom map'
7. The map will then be available in your 'Maps' section
   • To access via the website, hover over 'Saved' and select 'Maps'
   • To access via the mobile apps, tap 'Saved' >> 'Lists' >> 'My maps'

You can also save and customize another user's map by following these steps on your desktop or laptop:

1. Log into your account
2. Hover over explore from the menu at the top right corner and in the dropdown select 'Community' 
3. Type in the name of the member you want to search for in the search box under 'Connect', discover a local AllTrails member, or select a member you're already following from the 'Following' tab on the left, and click their name to open their profile
4. Click 'Activities' from their profile page to view their recorded activities, or check out one of their Lists, then click on any map you'd like to view
5. On the left panel of the screen, click the overflow button (3 dots) and select 'Customize Map'
6. The route will be copied over as a new custom map, where you can edit using our map creator tools 
7. When finished editing the map, click 'Save custom map'
8. The map will then be available in your 'Maps' section
   
   • To access via the website, hover over 'Saved' and select 'Maps'
   • To access via the mobile apps, tap 'Saved' >> 'Lists' >> 'My maps'
