How do I use filters to find trails?

AllTrails has wide variety of filters to help you find your perfect trail. Using our filters, you'll be able to set parameters for the trail you'd like to find. Please note that our filters use an 'and' logic, therefore if you have multiple filters set, the trail will need to possess all attributes to be displayed. For example, if you select both 'River' and 'Forest' under Attractions, trails will need to have both of these features present to be included in your results.

You can use filters by following these steps:

Via desktop or laptop computer:

  1. Go to https://www.alltrails.com and click on the 'Explore' tab in the top left corner
  2. Select a filter category from the drop-downs on the top of the screen
  3. Select your filter criteria, then click 'See x trails' to apply
  4. When a filter is in use, it will be highlighted green

Via iPhone/Android apps:

  1. Open the AllTrails app
  2. Via the app explore page, tap the filters icon in the upper right corner within the search bar
  3. Select desired filters and tap the ‘See x trails’ button at the bottom right

1. Sort (the order the trail results will be displayed):

  • Best match
  • Most popular
  • Closest
  • Newly added

2. Distance Away (AllTrails+ feature: shows trails closest to your location) 

  • Distance radius of 5 mi to 60 mi away

3. Activity:

  • Backpacking
  • Bird watching
  • Camping
  • Cross country skiing
  • Fishing
  • Hiking
  • Horseback riding
  • Mountain biking
  • Off-road driving
  • Paddle sports
  • Road biking
  • Rock climbing
  • Scenic driving
  • Skiing

4. Difficulty:
