Pictures stored three times on my Android phone

Hello, my android phone is complaining about the amount of storage, so I went looking where the pictures taken through Alltrails are stored. They appear in two locations:

• in my phone / pictures folder even though I configured the camera to store pictures on the SD card
• in the Phone\Android\data\com.alltrails.alltrails\files\Pictures folder
  To make it even worse in this folder all pictures are stored twice once with a name starting with atphoto_gallery_map_nn, where nn is a map number, and once with a name starting with atphoto_camera_tempfile

Questions:

1. Is it possible to configure Alltrails to store all pictures on my SD card?
2. Which pictures may be deleted safely without losing the pictures in my maps?
   I assume I can safely delete all pictures in the Phone/pictures folder. These are probably related to the gallery app.
   Possibly also the pictures with tempfile in the name can be safely deleted after these pictures are synchronised with the website.
