App keeps pausing

I'm having a terrible time getting AllTrails to save my route. The app keeps pausing. I have double checked the battery usage. My Garmin gps is tracking, why not AllTrails?

  I had this same issue AllTrails support told me to close all open apps other that AllTrails. This has all but eliminated the pause error

  They also told me to not constantly open and close the app to view progress and take photos which is unacceptably to me but I have the Apple app and an Apple watch so i can monitor progress with my watch.
