How do I use AllTrails for navigation?

Whether you're exploring a place for your first time or trying out a new route at your local park, AllTrails can help you navigate while you're out on the trail so that you don't get lost - even when you don't have a data signal!

There are a few ways to use AllTrails for navigation:

Via a Trail on Explore, Favorites, Lists, or Completed:

  1. While in range of a data signal, navigate to the trail whose map you want to use

  2. On the Trail Details screen, tap Record (it's in-line with Directions, Check in, and Download)

  3. The trail map will load in the Record view, along with your current location

  4. Record your route by tapping the red Record button

  5. The verified route from the trail map that you loaded will turn semi-opaque once you tap Record; the route that you've traveled will be marked with a darker red line

NOTE: if you'd rather follow along on another user's recorded track instead of the default route you can do that by scrolling down to Recordings >> tapping on the selected recording >> tapping the Overflow Menu in the upper right corner >> tapping Load into Recorder

Via Maps (for AllTrails Pro members only):

  1. Open Maps by tapping on Plan via the bottom navigation bar and selecting the Maps tab at the top of the screen (you do not need to be within range of a data signal to access your downloaded Maps!)

  2. Select a map from the list

  3. Tap the Overflow Menu in the upper right corner and select Load Into Recorder

  4. The trail map will load in the Record view, along with your current location

  5. Record your route by tapping the red Record button

  6. The verified route from the trail map that you loaded will turn semi-opaque once you tap Record; the route that you've traveled will be marked with a darker red line
