How do I contribute a new trail to AllTrails?

Even though we have over 50,000 trails in our database, there are still plenty more great trails out there! Our trail database is member driven so if you know of a trail that should be on AllTrails, please take a minute to add it. The AllTrails community will thank you!

When adding new trails, we are specifically looking for trails that start and end at a parking area, are on public property, and contain a drawn route. Our strong preference is for out-and-back or loop trails that begin and end in the same location, but of course some trails are through trails and they are welcome too.

Please note that any suggested trail additions must first be evaluated by our moderators. This process may take may take a while depending on our ability to verify the information.

There are two ways to add a new trail to AllTrails on the web via alltrails.com. You can either suggest one of your recordings be added as a new trail, or you can draw a new trail. You can also submit any of your recordings as a suggested new trail via the AllTrails app.

To submit one of your recordings as a trail on alltrails.com:

  1. Login to your AllTrails account using a desktop or laptop computer
  2. Click on History in the green website header and then choose Recordings from the drop down menu
  3. Choose the Recording that you would like to suggest from the list on the left side of the screen and click to open it
  4. Click the blue Suggest as New Trail button on the bottom left side of the screen
  5. Determine the type of route (out and back, loop, point-to-point)
  6. Add in as much additional information that you can including difficulty level, season start/end, activities, features, etc.
  7. When you are finished, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the blue Save button
  8. You will be taken to the pending trail page where you can add a description, tips, or directions
