What is a recording?

A recording (or a recorded track) is a route that you log by recording your activity with the AllTrails app, or by importing a GPX file to your AllTrails profile.

Your recordings are automatically synced across your devices and are tied to your user account, making it easy to keep tabs on your outdoor activity.

Additionally, since many trails often have more than one possible route, it can be helpful to check out other users' recorded tracks for inspiration. These can be found on any trail page by navigating below the Description section and clicking on Recordings. You can click on any individual recording for more information including distance, elevation, and total time.

If your profile is not set to private, any recordings that you upload that are linked to a trail will automatically be viewable on the associated trail page. This is a great way to help contribute to the AllTrails community.
