How to download maps to your phone for offline use

One of the great benefits of being an AllTrails subscriber is that you can download maps to your phone for offline use. This allows you to view detailed map information and navigate using your phone's built-in GPS while you're out on the trail -- even when you don't have mobile data signal! 

Your downloaded maps are stored and accessible through the AllTrails app under 'Saved' > 'Downloads.' 

Download custom routes created via desktop or laptop:

If you've used Custom Routes to make your own route on AllTrails.com, you'll be able to access it on the mobile app. Custom routes that you've created and saved on a desktop or laptop will automatically sync and show in the 'Custom routes & maps' section of the app (Saved >> Lists >> Custom routes & maps).

Download a custom route to your phone to use it offline:

1. Open the AllTrails app
2. Tap 'Saved' on the bottom navigation bar
3. Select 'Lists' from the tabs at the top of the screen
4. Select 'Custom routes & maps' from the list of options
5. Tap the download arrow in the bottom right corner of the result card for the map you want to download
6. Pick the map type(s) you want to download by tapping the download arrow in the lower-right corner of each map type
7. When the circle turns black, your map download has been completed

Download trail maps via Explore, Favourites, Lists, or Completed:

1. Open the AllTrails app
2. On any trail card, you can tap the download button at the bottom of the screen
3. Pick the map type(s) you want to download by tapping the download button again in the bottom-right corner of each map type
4. When the circle turns GREEN, your map download for that specific layer has been completed

Download your own activities as maps:

1. Open the AllTrails app
2. Tap 'Profile' on the bottom navigation bar
3. Select 'Activities' from the tabs (in line with 'Feed' and 'Photos')
4. Tap the download arrow in the bottom-right corner of the card for the activity you want to download
5. Pick the map type(s) you want to download by tapping the download arrow in the lower-right corner of each map type
6. When the circle turns GREEN, your map download for that specific layer has been completed

Download a map area via the mobile app:

1. Open the AllTrails app
2. Tap 'Saved' on the bottom navigation bar
3. Select 'Lists' from the tabs at the top of the screen
4. Select 'Custom routes & maps' from the list 
5. Tap the overflow menu (three dots) in the upper-right corner
6. Select 'Save map area'
7. Pan and zoom the map to the desired map area and tap 'Save'
8. Enter a name for your map and tap 'Save'
9. Once saved, tap the 'Download' button at the bottom of the map
