This error message indicates that your web browser does not support WebGL, a technology that is required to render maps on AllTrails. If you see this error message, you may need to upgrade your browser to the latest version, or simply switch to a different browser. If you prefer a particular browser, you may be able to adjust your browser settings to allow WebGL. Please click here for a list of recommended browsers to access the AllTrails website. How can I check if my browser supports WebGL?
We recommend performing a quick test on your browser to see if WebGL is supported by clicking here. You should see a spinning cube and confirmation that WebGL is supported.
- If you do not see a spinning cube, you may need to enable WebGL in your browsers settings. Please refer to the next section, which provides steps to do so on several of our supported browsers.
- If you do see a spinning cube yet you are still seeing the above error message, please reach out to our support team at support@alltrails.com and we'll be happy to help troubleshoot. In your support request, please be sure to include which operating system and version you are running, as well as your browser name and version.
How do I enable WebGL on my browser?
If you have updated to the latest version of your browser and you are still seeing this error, there are various settings adjustments you can make to ensure WebGL is enabled. Below are the recommended steps to perform for each of our supported browsers.
Google Chrome:
- Click the overflow menu (three dots) in the upper right corner of your browser window and select 'Settings'
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click 'Advanced' (or skip to step 3)
- Under 'System', toggle 'Use hardware acceleration when available' to the ON position (the button should be blue)
- Refresh or restart Chrome to apply your new settings
Firefox:
- Open a Firefox browser page and enter 'about:config' in your URL bar
- Search for 'webgl.enable-webgl2' and make sure this preference is set to 'true'. If it is set to false, click the reverse icon to the right to set to true.
- Search for 'webgl.force-enabled' and make sure this preference is set to 'true'. If it is set to false, click the reverse icon to the right to set to true.
- Search for 'webgl.disabled' and make sure this preference is set to 'false'. If it is set to true, click the reverse icon on the far right to change the value to false.
- Restart Firefox to apply your new settings
Safari:
WebGL is typically enabled by default on Safari for recent browser versions, but there may be some circumstances where you will need to manually enable it. Please note that the following steps will only apply if WebGL has been disabled from your browser.
- From the menu bar, click 'Safari' then select 'Preferences'
- Select the 'Websites' tab
- Select 'WebGL' from the list on the left side of the window - this will only be present if WebGL has been disabled
- If you see alltrails.com listed on the right, select 'Allow' from the drop down menu
- If you do not see alltrails.com listed on the right, look for 'When visiting other websites' in the lower-right corner of the window, and select either 'Ask' or 'Allow' from the drop-down menu
- Restart Safari to apply the new settings
If you are unable to load the page after the above adjustments, we recommend trying these additional settings:
- Open the alltrails.com website
- From the menu bar, click 'Safari' then select 'Preferences'
- Select the 'Advanced' tab
- Check the box to 'Show Develop menu in menu bar'
- From the menu bar, click 'Develop' then select 'Experimental features'
- Click to enable 'WebGL 2.0'
- Restart Safari to apply the new settings
Lastly, if you are still seeing the error message after the above adjustments, you may have success from opting into the Safari Technology Preview, as outlined here. This will give you pre-release access to upcoming browser updates, and should allow WebGL by default.
Microsoft Edge:
- Click the overflow menu (three dots) in the upper-right corner of your browser window and select 'Settings'
- Click 'System' from the left panel
- Toggle 'Use hardware acceleration when available' to the ON position (the button should be blue)
- Click 'Restart' to relaunch Edge and to apply the new settings
