AllTrails has 400,000+ hand-curated trail guides from all over the world. We believe there is a trail out there for everyone, no matter if you're new to the outdoors or a seasoned veteran. Whether you're looking for a trail in your own backyard or in a new area you're visiting, AllTrails can help you find your perfect trail.
Each trail has its own dedicated page that includes a map with a verified route, trail details such as distance and elevation, driving directions to the trailhead, as well as photos, reviews, and activities from our community of users. You can discover trails near you on both AllTrails.com and in the AllTrails app. You'll automatically see trails near you based on the location set in your profile, but it's easy to search for trails in other areas using different types of search terms:
Places: Cities, states, and countries. This will populate a list of trails in a specific area outside of your current location.
Parks: Local parks, regional parks, state parks, national forests, national parks, etc. This will pull up a list of trails within a specific park. For example, type "Yosemite National Park" into the search bar to be given a list of trails in that specific park.
Trails: The name of a trail. Just type in the name of the specific trail you want to search for.
Lists: Lists of trails created by our internal team. An example of a list includes the Pacific Crest Trail list, which contains all sections of the PCT in one easy to find place.
Whether you're searching for a mountain bike ride, a trail run, or a hike, you can use the filters to search for trails based on your desired activity. You can also use the filters to narrow the results for attractions on the trail (wildflowers, for example), trail difficulty, trail rating, length, route type, and suitability. You can even filter trails by whether or not you've completed them.
Note: The default for using search in the AllTrails app is the app homepage view of trails. You can also switch to Map View to see trails on a map or List View to see trails in a list form.
Searching for other users' content
Additionally on AllTrails.com you can search for other users' maps and activities. This functionality isn't yet available in the AllTrails app. This is a great option if you aren't able to find many hand-curated trails in your area.
You can search for user content by following these steps:
- Log into your account
- Click 'Explore' in the upper right corner
- You'll automatically be shown trails based on the location set in your profile, however, you can also search for trails in other areas by typing in a city/state/country name or a specific park name in the search bar at the top
- You'll then see a map with corresponding trails on the left side and trail pins on the map. By default this is called 'Curated Trails' and displays trails.
- You can toggle to see other users' maps and activities by clicking 'Community Content', which will display different colored pins on the map with corresponding maps and activities from our community of users on the left side.
