With an AllTrails Plus or Peak subscription, you can send AllTrails routes directly to your Garmin device. Routes sent to your Garmin can then be used to navigate while out on the trail.
Any Garmin device that supports Garmin courses is compatible with this feature. You can browse a full list on the Garmin website.
Connecting your AllTrails account to Garmin
You can connect to Garmin via your account settings page. You'll need to sign into Garmin and enable both activities and courses to send routes to Garmin. Learn more about connecting to your Garmin account.
I'm already connected to Garmin, do I need to do anything?
If you already have Garmin connected to sync with your activities, you'll still need to update your settings to enable Garmin courses to send routes to your Garmin device. Head over to your account settings, then click 'Manage' next to 'Garmin' in the right panel. You'll then click 'Change' to grant permission to AllTrails to send routes to Garmin (you may need to sign into your Garmin account again).
Sending routes to Garmin via the AllTrails mobile app
From any trail page -- including custom routes that you've created -- tap the overflow menu (3 dots), then tap 'Send to Garmin'.
You'll see a short loading state while AllTrails sends the route to Garmin Connect, then a confirmation banner will appear once the route has been successfully sent.
Sending routes to Garmin via AllTrails.com
You can find the 'Send to Garmin' option on trail pages by selecting the green 'Hit the trail' button, which will open a list of options that allow you to share the trail with your devices. The 'Send to Garmin' button is also available on detail maps, custom routes, and your activities by clicking the overflow menu (3 dots) when viewing these pages from our website. When you click 'Send to Garmin', your chosen route will be sent to Garmin Connect as a course.
You'll then need to sync your Garmin device with Garmin Connect to make sure your route has been sent. We recommend launching your Garmin Connect app to ensure your device has been synced.
How do I access the route on my Garmin device?
To get detailed instructions for accessing your route on your Garmin device, refer to your device's instruction manual. You can find manuals for all devices on the Garmin website.
Can I update a route I've already sent to Garmin?
You can! Routes sent to Garmin don't update automatically if you make a change to a custom route, or when a curated route is updated by AllTrails. If you sent a route a while ago, it's always a good idea to update it on your device before you head out on the trail. To update the route, go into the overflow menu (3 dots) for that route and click 'Update on Garmin'.
How do I view or manage everything I've sent to Garmin?
You can view the routes sent to Garmin via Garmin Connect in the 'Courses' tab. This can be accessed via the Garmin Connect app or Garmin Connect website by selecting 'Training & Planning' >> 'Courses'. You'll also see this link to view your Garmin courses in your Garmin settings screen ('Manage routes on Garmin').
How does auto-syncing new downloads to Garmin work?
When you download a route for offline use, AllTrails can automatically send it to Garmin Connect as a course -- no need to manually tap 'Send to Garmin'. Newly downloaded trails and/or custom routes will auto-sync only after Garmin is connected with courses enabled.
- After a download completes, AllTrails sends it to Garmin Connect in the background
- You'll see a brief confirmation when it succeeds
- Open Garmin Connect (or wait for automatic sync) to send it to your device
