How to customize existing routes

AllTrails members can customize AllTrails verified routes, as well as routes from other members' public activities. You can edit the route, add waypoints, and more. When you customize and save a route via our website, it will automatically sync to your mobile app for you to use.

Customize a verified route by following these steps on your desktop or laptop:

1. Log into your account
2. Open the map for the trail you’d like to customize
3. Click the pencil icon in the bottom right corner of the map
4. The route will be copied over as a new custom route, which you can edit using our map creator tools
5. When you’re finished customizing the route, click 'Save custom map'
6. The map will then be available in your 'My maps' section
   • To access via the website, hover over 'Saved' and select 'My maps'
   • To access via the mobile apps, tap 'Saved' >> 'Lists' >> 'Custom routes & maps'

Customize a route based on another member’s public activity by following these steps on your desktop or laptop:

1. Log into your account
2. Hover over explore from the menu at the top right corner and select 'Community' 
3. Type in the name of the member you want to search for in the search box under 'Connect', discover a local AllTrails member, or select a member you're already following from the 'Following' tab on the left, and click their name to open their profile
4. Click 'Activities' from their profile page to view their recorded activities, or check out one of their Lists, then open the map of their route
5. On the left panel of the screen, click the overflow button (3 dots) and select 'Customize map'
6. The route will be copied over as a new custom route, which you can edit using our map creator tools
7. When you’re finished customizing the route, click 'Save custom map'
8. The map will then be available in your 'My maps' section
   • To access via the website, hover over 'Saved' and select 'My maps'
   • To access via the mobile apps, tap 'Saved' >> 'Lists' >> 'Custom routes & maps'

Peak members can customize AllTrails verified routes, as well as routes from other members’ public activities in the mobile app.
